Kayaking Smith Mountain Lake

Smith Mountain Lake is Central Virginia's big lake day: 500 miles of shoreline, quiet coves, swim beaches, and some of the best sunsets in the state. We deliver kayaks, tandems, and paddleboards to the state park side so your only job is choosing which cove to explore.

Kayaking Smith Mountain Lake

The Big Lake Day

Our signature Smith Mountain trip is simple: tandem kayaks, a cooler, and a full day. Launch from Smith Mountain Lake State Park, work the shoreline coves in the morning, beach for a swim and lunch, and time your paddle back for golden hour over the water.

Calm water for everyone

Unlike river floats, lake paddling has no current to manage — ideal for young kids, first-time paddleboarders, and anyone who wants to set their own pace. Coves stay sheltered even when the main channel gets breezy.

Make a day of it

The lakeside grills at Bridgewater Plaza are an easy post-paddle stop near the state park side. Anglers: the lake and nearby Leesville Lake are both strong smallmouth water — bring your Virginia freshwater license.
